For Coby Pilarski's birthday, Vonna asked Nate and Aurelia Smith if Nate might be able to get a group of us onto Edwards Air Force Base to see the planes and even have a tour. Coby is a huge military fan and has plans to join the Marines once he graduates from High School. Nate graciously arranged for a fairly large group of us to spend the morning with he and his family touring the base. It was so much fun! After touring the base, we all gathered at their home and enjoyed a "family" BBQ.
For those of you who are reading this and have no idea who these people are that I'm talking about, I'll give you a little background. Coby (the boy in the green stripped shirt, next to me in the group photo) is the son of my dear friends Tom and Suzi Pilarski (standing behind Coby). Tom and Suzi head up the College Group at my church and their family has become my adopted family here. Vonna (in the dark blue sweatshirt in the center back) is my wonderful roommate and a dear friend. Aurelia (standing next to Vonna) was in the Air Force at the same time Vonna was and became friends with Vonna through a ministry at Travis Air Force Base. I met their family through Vonna and have really enjoyed getting to know them. The other people in the group photo are both old and new friends. Mary and Bob Sommerville (between the Pilarski's and Vonna) are a wonderful, Godly couple that I just recently met. Bob is a professor at The Master's College in the Masters in Biblical Studies department. His wife is an author and mentor to many of the women who come through the program. The Scroggins family (to the right of Aurelia) are dear friends that attend my church. They have been such a blessing to know. Nathan is like a big brother and teases me just as much as my brother does, which is quite and accomplishment. On the far right is the Kropf family. They also attend my church and are faithful servants and active members of the church body. The little boy on Chris' shoulders is Nate and Aurelia's son. He really liked Chris! :-)
